The Psi Corps and President Clark, whose government has discovered Sha dow ves sels buried i n Earth&# 39;s sola r system, begin to harness th e vessels& #39; advan ced techn ology. The Cla rk adminis tration contin ues to becom e increasingly xenophobic an d totalitar ian, and uses a military i ncident as an excuse to declare mart ial law. This triggers a wa r of inde pendenc e on Mars, which had lo ng had a strai ned political relationship with Ea rth. Babylon 5 also decla res inde pendence from Earth, along with several o ther outlying E arth Allianc e colon ies. In response, t he Earth Alli ance att empts to ret ake Babylon 5 by force, bu t with the aid of the Minb ari, who have alli ed with th e station ag ainst th e growing Sh adow threat , the attack is repelle d. Beco ming con cerned over the Shadows& #39; growi ng influ ence am ongst his people, Cen tauri ambas sador Londo Mol lari attempt s to sever ti es with them. Mr. Morden, the Shadows& amp;#39; human representative , tricks him into re storing t he partner ship by en gineering the murder of Mollari&a mp;#39;s m istress w hile pu tting th e blame on a r ival Centauri H ouse. It is learned that gene tic manipul ation by the Vorlons i s the source of human tel epathy, a s it is late r discovered t hat Shadow sh ips are vulnerable to telepath ic attacks. Former station co mmander Jeffrey Sinclair ret urns to Baby lon 5 to enli st the aid of Ca ptain Sh eridan, Delenn, Ivan ova and Marcus in stealing th e Babylo n 4 spa ce station and sending i t 1, 000 y ears back in time to use it as a bas e of ope rations a gainst th e Shadows i n the p revious Minbari-Shad ow war. Underg oing th e same transfor mation as Dele nn at the end of Seas on 1, Sin clair transfo rms into a M inbari and is subseque ntly reveale d to be the actual V alen of Minbari legend, rathe r than a reincarnation . Spurred by t he reappe arance of his assumed- dead wife (who no w works for the Shadow s), Sher idan travel s to Z& amp;#39;ha& amp;#39;dum, the Shad ow homeworld, in an attempt by them to r ecruit him.
